Scott Gunn: Conspiracy theories abound — news from this afternoon’s briefing
Finally, there was a Eucharist this afternoon. When asked if the primates attended, a partial attendance list was provided. Only a few primates were there, and of a particular theological stripe. There was no official list of those present, so I cannot say anything with certainty. Still, it seems to be that there is some irony. The conservative forces are wailing about “last chance for unity” and so forth, but they don’t seem to show up for a Eucharist. +Rowan was there with a few primates, mostly from northern provinces. What does this say about our communion? I’ll be very interested to see what happens at the Eucharist on Sunday. We’re to be allowed in, so there will be no masking who does and does not share in communion — at this Eucharist of the Anglican Communion primates.

Such cluelessness as Gunn expresses is part of the problem (because I have heard similar sentiments expressed over and over): "Still, it seems to be that there is some irony. The conservative forces are wailing about “last chance for unity” and so forth, but they don’t seem to show up for a Eucharist."
As the primates stated, if TEC proceeded with consecrating Robinson, the very fabric of the communion would be torn at its deepest level. The tear has taken place; TEC did the tearing. There is one way to begin the process of the repair process (the Windsor Report), but TEC has shown no felt need to do anything but make a pretense of acting responsibly (see Kendall's excellent analysis). Until TEC makes some sincere effort to repair the damage it caused, no unity is possible. Pretending everything is fine or that this is much ado about nothing seems to be a common refrain among liberals. They didn't believe (or didn't care) that the communion would be torn when they acted, and they act now as if the communion isn't torn. It's time the liberals stopped the narrow-mindedness and realized that there are other points of view out there and that some version of a group hug cannot take place until a modicum of acknowledgment of the offense and repentence is forthcoming.
