Archbishop of Canterbury: Brief Statement on HOB Response

Source: Via email from the Anglican Communion Office

Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams said,

"This initial response of the House of Bishops is discouraging and indicates the need for further discussion and clarification. Some important questions have still to be addressed; no-one is underestimating the challenges ahead."

The bottom line for the House of Bishops is that they plead ignorance about the Lambeth Resolutions on sexuality and plead ignorance about the moratoriums agreed to in the Windsor Report.

They now skillfully craft the debate to be that they can't act without General Convention. Forget that GC already agreed to the Windsor Report...and even if they didn't, the Lambeth Statements still apply. Are we really as dense as the Bishops hope we are?

We shall be watching closely the responses from Duncan and the Windsor Bishops who met last year to affirm Lambeth 1.10. I hope they don't blink...because the HOB has not.

I am grateful the ECUSA has truely exposed its vision to move forward with leadership of the Anglican Communion. The American Church has been taken over by LBGT activists and is trying to move that agenda forward in the communion.

There needs to be a place where former Episcopalians like me can worship that is not some "new religion". Hopefully the Archbishop can step up and help with this process.
